Room Selection for Returning Students

Returning students can complete the housing application for the 2024-2025 academic year in myUK as early as Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Room Selection for returners will not open until the week of October 9. Time slots to participate in Room Selection will be assigned based on the completion date of the student's housing application. Applying early for campus housing is always recommended. Returning students must cancel their housing applications in myUK by February 28, 2024 to avoid cancellation fees.

Reminders for Room Selection

Depending on your UK admissions track and when you completed your housing application, you will receive an email with the date and time in which your room selection time frame opens and closes. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Your time frame for Room Selection is based on your UK admissions track and when your housing application was completed — those who completed earlier will receive earlier time slot selections. You will not have the ability to view available bed spaces until your time slot officially opens.

Room Selection Step-By-Step

  1. Once your time slot begins, log into your myUK account with your linkblue username and password
  2. Select the Student Services tab.
  3. Select Undergraduate Housing under the myInfo tab. Select the Fall 2024-Spring 2025 housing application.
  4. Go to the Roommate Requests section of the application to verify any roommates. REMINDER: Students participating in a Living Learning Program (LLP), with the exception of students joining the Community of Scholars, must select other roommates who belong to the same LLP.  If you discover you have selected roommates who are not students participating in your same LLP, you will be unable to pull these students into the space with you during Room Selection. To find other students within your same LLP, please follow these steps:
    • Log into your Housing portal via myUK, and go to the Roommate Requests portion of your housing application. If you have created a verified roommate group, you will be able to see if the selected roommates belong to your LLP.
    • If you discover that any of the students within your created roommate group do not belong to your same LLP,  you will need to use the Roommate Matching feature within the Housing portal to search for students who are members of your LLP. Each student’s chosen LLP can be seen when you view their information.
  5. Select the Rooms step, and then click the name of your building.
  6. Depending on which building you will be living in, you will see either a list of floors or a list of rooms. Either select the room or the floor in which you are interested.
    • If your desired building does not appear, it means there are no spaces available in that specific hall at this time. We advise you to continue looking for availability at your convenience.
  7. Select a bed space. They are labeled A through D.
  8. If you have a verified roommate(s), be sure to book them into a bed space.
  9. Confirm your booking within the Rooms section of the application. You will also receive a confirmation email of your booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Room Selection?

Room Selection gives you the opportunity to select a room for the next academic year. Room types/options are based on availability. For a step-by-step guide of the Room Selection process, we recommend viewing our General Room Selection Overview video.

How do I participate in Room Selection?

You will be notified via email and provided an assigned time slot that will be used to select your room within the Campus Housing portal of myUK. Your Room Selection time slot is determined by your UK Admissions Track and the Housing and Dining Application completion date. For a step-by-step guide of the Room Selection process, we recommend viewing our General Room Selection Overview video.

Will I be participating in Room Selection?

Yes, you will participate in Room Selection if you have a completed housing application. In order for you to have a housing assignment, you must select your room through the Room Selection process.

When will I participate in Room Selection?

Based on when you were admitted to the university and when you completed your housing application, you will be sent an email notifying you of the day and time you will participate in Room Selection. We strongly encourage you to select your space as soon as your Room Selection window opens, so that you may have optimal choices when selecting your room.

  • For those who have accepted an LLP offer, you can expect to participate in Room Selection in early March.
  • For those not participating in an LLP, you can expect to participate in Room Selection in early June.
  • If you are a student returning to UK Campus Housing, you can select your room as soon as you submit your housing application.

What if I don’t have a confirmed roommate?

If you do not have a confirmed roommate, other students without a roommate will be able to see you in your room space. They can also view the profile information you submitted as part of your application, if you have chosen to display this information. This is how other students can tell if you might have some common interests and would make a good roommate match. We recommend viewing our Room Selection: Solo (Finding a Roommate) video.

What does "hidden" mean?

When viewing students whose names appear within a bed space, you can hover your mouse over each student's name to find out more information about them. If they have chosen not to make their information public, the term “hidden” will appear when you hover your mouse over their name.

Is it too late for me to apply to the Living Learning Program for the 2024-2025 academic year?

The deadline for new students to apply for the 2024-2025 Living Learning Program (LLP) is May 15, 2024, and the deadline to accept an LLP offer is May 22. Spaces are limited within each LLP, so applying early is encouraged.

I’m in an LLP. Will my roommate also be in the LLP?

All LLP students, with the exception of Community of Scholars, are required to live with students in their same LLP.  Click here to view some frequently asked questions pertaining to LLPs.

Community of Scholars students are the only LLP students allowed to room with students outside that LLP; however, we ask that you notify UK Campus Housing by emailing ukhousing@uky.edu or calling 859-257-1866 to officially process this request.

What if I am participating in an LLP but I do not have a roommate in mind? Can I still participate in Room Selection?

Yes. You are not required to be in a roommate group to participate in Room Selection. When your assigned time slot opens, you can still select a space without first selecting a roommate. Only rooms available to you and those students in your specific LLP will be visible. If you are looking at a specific space, you can hover over an occupant’s name with your mouse to view more information about that student to determine if they would be a good match as a roommate. To view some commonly asked questions pertaining to LLPs, please click here. We also recommend watching our Room Selection: Solo (Finding a Roommate video).

If I have changed my mind and no longer intend to participate in an LLP, will I need to select a different room or roommates?

Yes. If you no longer intend to participate in an LLP, you will need to officially decline your LLP offer within the Housing portal of myUK before May 22. Once the offer has been declined, you can consider yourself released from the LLP and may now select a different room, residence hall or roommate(s) by using the Room Swap function. All changes must be submitted prior to the closing of the Room Selection window at 11:59 p.m. on July 14.

I am attempting to select my room during my assigned Room Selection time slot, but I cannot pull my confirmed roommates into the living space with me. What does this mean?

This could mean a couple things.

  1. You need to create and verify your roommate group within the Roommate Requests section of the housing application in myUK. We recommend viewing our General Room Selection Overview video and Room Selection: Preferred Roommates video for step-by-step instructions.
  2. You have selected roommates outside of your LLP. REMINDER: Students participating in an LLP are expected to live with another student in the same LLP, unless you are joining the Community of Scholars LLP.  To check that your roommates are members of the same LLP as you, log into myUK and visit the Roommates Requests section of your housing application. Once there, you will be able to view each student’s chosen LLP. If you discover that any of the students within your created roommate group do not belong to your same LLP,  you will need to use the Roommate Matching feature within the Housing portal to search for students who are also members of your LLP. Each student’s chosen LLP can be seen when you view their information.
  3. If you have confirmed that both of the above items have been correctly completed and are still experiencing difficulty, please reach out to UK Campus Housing for assistance by emailing ukhousing@uky.edu or calling 859-257-1866.

If I am planning to join the Community of Scholars LLP, is it required that I room with another Community of Scholars student?

No. Community of Scholars students are the only LLP students allowed to room with students outside that LLP; however, we ask that you notify UK Campus Housing by emailing ukhousing@uky.edu or calling 859-257-1866 to officially process this request.

What if I already selected a room and I've changed my mind about where I want to live on campus?

There are several reasons a student may decide to change rooms.  You may decide you want to live on a different side of campus, or maybe you didn’t receive your first choice of living arrangements.

The Room Swap function, within the Campus Housing portal,  gives you the opportunity to change your building and/or room up until 11:59 p.m. on the last day of the Room Selection window.  Room Swap will allow you to see what other buildings and rooms are available and will allow you to move yourself into a new space. If you are in a Living Learning Program (LLP), you will only see bed spaces within that LLP. You can go through Room Swap and change rooms as many times as you want up until 11:59 PM on the last day of the Room Selection window.

What if I can't find the room type I am looking for?

If you are having trouble locating a certain room type within our system, it may be because those room types have all been filled and are no longer available to select. Some room types are popular and reserved more quickly. You are welcome to check back within the Campus Housing portal of myUK as often as you like to see if other students change their minds and release your preferred room type. There can be no guarantees that this will occur, but it does happen occasionally as students solidify their plans for the fall semester.

What if my plans have changed and I want to live off campus?

The decision to find off-campus accommodations is a personal decision for each student. The university does not provide housing location services, but there are a number of apartment complexes and houses near campus. If you are certain of your plans to live off campus, you will want to formally cancel your 2024-2025 Campus Housing and Dining Application and Contract.

  • The deadline for new students to cancel their housing applications in myUK without incurring cancellation fees is June 1.
  • Returning students must cancel their housing applications in myUK by February 28 to avoid cancellation fees.
  • All other cancellation windows reflect the schedule as outlined in the 2024-2025 UK Campus Housing and Dining contract.

To formally cancel your UK Campus Housing Application and Contract, you will need return to the campus housing portal within myUK and follow these steps:

  1. Go to myUK (myUK.uky.edu)
  2. Log in using your linkblue username and password
  3. Select Student Services
  4. Select myInfo
  5. Select Campus Housing to be taken to the Campus Housing portal
  6. Select Undergraduate Application
  7. Select “Click here to cancel” under the term you wish to cancel
  8. Click CANCEL next to the application/booking/contract you wish to cancel

If you experience any difficulty canceling your Campus Housing Application and Contract, please contact UK Campus Housing at ukhousing@uky.edu or 859-257-1866.
