Room Selection

Room selection gives you the opportunity to select a room for the next academic year. Room types/options are based on availability. 

Most students will receive an email with an assigned time slot for selecting their living space in the Housing portal of myUK. Your time slot is determined, in part, by the completion date of your UK Campus Housing and Dining application. You will have 48 hours from the time your room selection window opens to select a space. NOTE: Not all students will receive time slots for room selection. As residence halls approach capacity, UK Campus Housing may transition to a manual assignment process allowing us to more precisely monitor inventory and accommodate requests more efficiently. If you are manually assigned, you will be able to view your assignment on the Application Summary page in myUK.

Most students with a completed housing application will participate in room selection. However, UK Campus Housing may pause room selection and switch to a manual assignment process as the residence halls approach capacity. This allows us to more precisely monitor inventory and accommodate requests more efficiently. Based on when you were admitted to the university and when you completed your housing application, you will be sent an email notifying you of the day and time you will participate in room selection. We strongly encourage you to select your space as soon as your room selection window opens, so that you may have optimal choices when selecting your room. 

• For those who have accepted an LLP offer, you can expect to participate in room selection in early March.
• For those not participating in an LLP, you can expect to participate in room selection in mid-April.

If you do not have a confirmed roommate, other students without a roommate will be able to see you in your room space. They can also view the profile information you submitted as part of your application, if you have chosen to display this information. This is how other students can tell if you might have some common interests and would make a good roommate match. 

When viewing students whose names appear within a bed space, you can hover your mouse over each student's name to find out more information about them. If they have chosen not to make their information public, the term “occupied” will appear when you hover your mouse over their name.

Spaces are limited within each LLP, so applying early is encouraged. The deadline for new students to apply for the 2027 - 2028 Living Learning Program (LLP) is May 15, 2027, and the deadline to accept an LLP offer is May 22. You will apply for the Living Learning Program within the UK Campus Housing and Dining application in myUK.

Yes, students participating in an LLP are required to live with other members of that same LLP. At this time, the only community that allows for participants to live with roommates who are not affiliated is the Honors Residential Experience. 

Yes. You are not required to be in a roommate group to participate in room selection. When your assigned time slot opens, you can still select a space without first selecting a roommate. Only rooms available to you and those students in your specific LLP will be visible. If you are looking at a specific space, you can hover over an occupant’s name with your mouse to view more information about that student to determine if they would be a good match as a roommate. Yes. If you no longer intend to participate in an LLP, you will need to officially decline your LLP offer within the Housing portal of myUK before May 22. Once the offer has been declined, you will automatically released from the LLP room assignment and receive communication from UK Campus Housing regarding a new assignment. 

This could mean a couple things. 

1. You need to create your roommate group within the Roommate Requests section of the housing application in myUK.
2. You have selected roommates outside of your LLP. REMINDER: Students participating in an LLP are expected to live with another student in the same LLP. To check that your roommates are members of the same LLP as you, log into myUK and visit the Roommates Requests section of your housing application. Once there, you will be able to view each student’s chosen LLP. If you discover that any of the students within your created roommate group do not belong to your same LLP,  you will need to use the Roommate Matching feature within the Housing portal to search for students who are also members of your LLP. Each student’s chosen LLP can be seen when you view their information.
3. If you have confirmed that both of the above items have been correctly completed and are still experiencing difficulty, please reach out to UK Campus Housing for assistance by emailing ukhousing@uky.edu or calling 859-257-1866. 

If you are having trouble locating a certain room type within our system, it may mean those room types have been filled and are no longer available to select. You will have 48 hours from the time your room selection window opens to select a space. We encourage you to select a space (even if it isn't your first choice) and request a room change when the opportunity is offered throughout the year.

The decision to find off-campus accommodations is a personal decision for each student. The university does not provide housing location services, but there are a number of apartment complexes and houses near campus. If you are certain of your plans to live off campus, you will want to formally cancel your 2027 - 2028 Campus Housing and Dining application and contract. 

• New students must cancel their housing applications in myUK by June 1 to avoid penalty fees that increase over time.
• Returning students must cancel their housing applications in myUK by February 28 to avoid penalty fees that increase over time.
• All other cancellation windows reflect the schedule as outlined in the 2027 - 2028 UK Campus Housing and Dining contract.

To formally cancel your UK Campus Housing application and contract, you will need return to the  Housing portal within myUK and follow these steps: 

1. Go to myUK (myUK.uky.edu)
2. Log in using your linkblue username and password
3. Select Student Services
4. Select myInfo
5. Select Campus Housing to be taken to the Campus Housing portal
6. Select Undergraduate Application
7. Select “Click here to cancel” under the term you wish to cancel
8. Click CANCEL next to the application/booking/contract you wish to cancel
