The University of Kentucky provides a residential academic experience commonly referred to as the Living Learning Program (LLP). LLPs offer students an opportunity to live with other students who share like-minded interests or similar academic majors.

Why should I join an LLP?

LLPs are a great way for students to get connected to other students who are interested in the same things, and will mean they are living with students taking at least one course together. LLP students have special access to unique experiences and events, including off-campus trips, service learning, and career exploration. In addition, it puts them in close proximity to faculty and instructors, as well as peer mentors who can assist them with their coursework and getting involved on campus.

How do I apply for an LLP?

You will apply for to the Living Learning Program within your UK Campus Housing application. You can preference up to three LLPs.

When should I apply for an LLP?

LLP invitations are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage students to apply early for optimal considerations. The final deadline to apply for LLPs is May 15, 2024.

How many LLPs are there?

At this time, we have 11 LLPs that span a wide array of interests, majors, and identities. You can learn more about the Living Learning Program and its communities here

I am not sure which LLP to choose, which one would you suggest?

While all of our communities offer unique experiences tailored to their specific mission, it is important for you as an applicant to think about what you would like to get out of your experiences. You can review more about each community on their individual webpages at go.uky.edu/llp. From there, you would want to rank your top three preferences on your housing application. If you have any questions, you can always reach out to livelearn@uky.edu.

Is there an additional cost to participate in an LLP?

No, there is no additional cost.

Are you required to live in the same building as the LLP?

Yes. It is important to live in the community with others so that you get the full experience of being affiliated with a community.

Can my roommate live with me even if they aren't accepted in the LLP?

No. At this time, the only community that allows for participants to live with roommates who are not affiliated is the Honors Residential Experience. LLPs require you to live with other members of the LLP.

What is the difference between the Honors Residential Experience and Community of Scholars?

The Honors Residential Experience is designed for Lewis Honors College students within Lewis and Haggin Halls. The Community of Scholars LLP is within Haggin Hall, and is specifically focused on non-Lewis Honors College students who desire to live in Honors housing.
