Why should I join?
Public Policy and Law exposes students to a wide range of careers in public policy and law, improves their preparation for real-world internships, and helps them find their unique place as leaders who make meaningful contributions to the community. Students interact with faculty, peer mentors, and staff committed to supporting their academic and leadership success at the University of Kentucky.
Public Policy and Law students engage with leaders both on and off campus through a variety of programs:
- Fireside chats with leaders in fields such as law, advocacy, nonprofit leadership, government service, public affairs communication, and consulting.
- A faculty lecture series on public policy and legal topics of interest to students.
- Film, TV, and board game nights.
- Career- and service-oriented field experiences across Central Kentucky.
Students in the Public Policy and Law LLP participate in a 3-credit hour course in the fall semester, PPL 201: Introduction to Public Policy, where we learn to tackle problems that matter to UK students. It also fulfills UK’s Intellectual Inquiry in the Social Sciences core requirement.
